Fresh
Foods | |||
Most websites and rat owners will tell you to feed fresh foods 7 days a week in the evening. This is fine if that's what you wish to do. I only feed mine 4 or 5 times a week on fresh as I found that they were always waiting for the fresh foods to come and not eating their dry mix. You should give them approx 80% dry & 20% fresh. I try and vary what I give them and try and offer them new foods. In the winter, due to my rats living in a shed, I need to add pasta to my mix to help them cope with the colder weather. I also offer them some foods which are higher in protein such as chicken, eggs and cat food. The advantage to rats is that they will eat nearly everything you give them. There are some things that you need to avoid, such as citrus fruit for boys as this is linked to cancer. I do make things out of the The Scuttling Gourmet book which is very good for ideas.
